An immensely popular anime in Japan, RUROUNI KENSHIN is an addictive series about a masterless roving samurai (the name for which is rurouni) named Himura Kenshin. Kenshin's story begins when he is a accosted by a young female, Kamiya Kaoru, who believes him to be the Hitokiri Battousai, a notorious serial killer. Fortunately, our hero Kenshin is not a serial killer--but he is the Hitokiri Battousai, as the killer has assumed his identity. Immediately, Kenshin is involved in a drama from which he cannot extricate himself as the real killer, Hiruma Gohei, is using Kenshin's name as well as ruining Kaoru's business, the Kamiya Kasshin Ryu kendo dojo, by claiming to have been trained there. A long (95 episodes) and beloved Anim?, RUROUNI KENSHIN (also known as SAMURAI X) is a spectacular samurai drama, filled with brutal swordplay and absorbing melodrama. This introductory volume includes the television series' episodes 1-4.

Pros: Beautiful animation and a classic series Cons: horribly written and hard to read extras, LONG series (22 volumes!) Bottom Line: a legendary wonder finds a place to settle down
