U2: Bono (vocals, guitar); The Edge (guitar, keyboards, background vocals); Adam Clayton (bass); Larry Mullen (drums). Additional personnel: Daniel Lanois (guitar); Brian Eno (keyboards). Recorded at Hansa Ton Studios, Berlin, Germany; Dog Town, S.T.S. and Windmill Lane Studios, Dublin, Ireland. The stunning opening track, "Zoo Station," kicks in with fierce, fuzzed-out guitar and a clanging industrial beat, Bono's distinctive voice the only tell-tale sign that this is indeed a U2 album. From here, ACHTUNG BABY deftly maneuvers between giddy electro-pop (the shimmering "Even Better Than the Real Thing," the funky "Mysterious Ways"), bold techno-tinged rock (the majestic punch of "Until the End of the World," the seducti... "Achtung Baby": All This Great Music Plus The Bassist's Wang On The Cover

Author's Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: U2 successfully lightens up a bit, adding groove and wit to their work.

Cons: It took them damn near a decade to record another album as good.

Bottom Line:
The key to an album's staying power is whether it sounds dated or not. U2's "Achtung Baby" sounds as fresh & relevant now as it did 16 1/2 years ago. Read More
