Led Zeppelin: Robert Plant (vocals, harmonica); Jimmy Page (acoustic, electric, & pedal steel guitars, background vocals); John Paul Jones (organ, bass, background vocals); John Bonham (drums, tympani, background vocals). Additional personnel: Viram Jasani (tablas). Recorded at Olympic Studios, London, England in October 1968. Rising from the ashes of his old band the Yardbirds, session guitarist Jimmy Page formed Led Zeppelin, one of the most powerful, influential, and enduring British bands to emerge in the '60s. Despite the presence of such classic thrash-o-ramas as "Good Times Bad Times" and "Communication Breakdown," what set Led Zeppelin apart was the depth and range of their music. Their sound was bathed in the blues, from rootsy covers of Willie Dixon's "You Shook Me" and "I Can't Quit You Baby," to the crunching rhythm changes of "Dazed And Confused." Few guitarists before or since possessed Page's sense of pacing and dynamics, as exemplified by the traditional acoustic folk elements framing the... Minimize

In the days of their youth, they knew what it meant to be a band

Author's Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: A heaviness unknown for 1969. Plant's wail, Page's shredding, an untouchable rhythm section.

Cons: Too much emphasis on the blues for me. Some songs simply ramble on.

Bottom Line:
Not the well-rounded, mysterious powerhouse they'd soon become, but fantastic anyway. People paid thousands to see these forty year old songs performed live last week for a reason. Read More

LED ZEPPELIN's debut (1969) - Going down to take the world by surprise!

Author's Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: A Heavy Rock's benchmark - great tunes, great musicians, fiery performances, band's most cohesive album.

Cons: They didn't like to name their 'influences'...Not as ecclectic as further albums.

Bottom Line:
One of the defining Rock N'Roll debuts. The most cohesive LED ZEPPELIN album and one of the very best ones. A benchmark in Heavy Rock! Play it on! Read More

Led Zeppelin at their hard rocking best!

Author's Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: All of the best sides of Led Zep captured on one ten-track album.

Cons: A wee bit too much generic blues but nothing to worry about.

Bottom Line:
If you're going to get one Led Zeppelin album, I think this is probably it. A phenomenal debut album from an otherwise overrated band. Very Highly Recommended! Read More
