The 2001 Toyota Prius is an all new hybrid vehicle boasting a fuel-efficient 52 mpg city, 45 mpg freeway. The Prius is powered by the Toyota Hybrid System, which utilizes a 70-hp gasoline engine combined with a 44-hp maintenance-free permanent magnet electric motor. This system allows the Prius to automatically switch from electricity or gasoline alone, or a combination of both. The Prius also offers a regenerative braking system to capture some of the energy normally lost during deceleration or stop-and-go driving. Standard features include anti-lock brakes, automatic climate control, and power windows, door locks and mirrors. Toyota provides an eight-year/100,000-mile battery and hybrid system warranty.
