Fishbone: Angelo Moore, Fish, John Norwood Fisher, Kendall Rey Jones, Christopher Dowd, Walter Kibby II. Fishbone's debut is a way-ahead-of-its-time mix of pop-punk-metal-ska-funk, somewhat reminiscent of the Red Hot Chili Peppers or Living Color but with a sense of humor (see "Voyage to the Land of the Freeze Dried Godzilla Fart"). A Police influence can also glimpsed occasionally, as in the shimmering guitar and reggae accents of "Modern Industry," but the music here is mostly sui generis; in fact, this is one of the rare mid-'80s major label albums whose vintage can't be instantly guessed from its drum sound. 6 Tracks of absolute madness!!

Author's Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: Great upbeat ska fun for all to enjoy!

Cons: Less than half an hour of it.

Bottom Line:
This is one of my favourite albums of all time that was made by some Californian high school kids in the 80's. Very Good! Read More

Fishbone Chronicles Part I, 1985: Humble beginnings, great things to come.

Author's Rating: 4/5 stars

Pros: A classic, upbeat party music, hints of things to come.

Cons: Only 6 songs. Doesn't fully represent Fishbone's versatility, or properly showcase instrumental skill.

Bottom Line:
The most classic Fishbone album, but not the one to get if you only get one. Greater things come later, though it's deservedly a classic in its own right. Read More
