FUMBLING TOWARDS ECSTASY was nominated for a 1995 Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Performance. Heavily atmospheric, building around intertwined harmonies and lush arrangements, FUMBLING TOWARDS ECSTASY might remind some of early Sinead O'Connor. McLachlan's ethereal vocal style pulls from the same sources as O'Connor, but add a calm that's more akin to contemporary jazz or new age than the pop charts McLachlan has climbed. The lifeblood of her songs are her physical and emotional relationships with people. With lyrics centered around satisfaction and the ways to maintain it, much of FUMBLING TOWARDS ECSTASY doesn't fumble but car... Minimize

Author's Review
Sarah McLachlan's third album, 1994's "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy" is one of the best cds to be released into this crazy world. This was the second Sarah McLachlan album I owned, so it took me a while to accept this album for the treasure it was. It took the release of "Mirrorball" and seeing her perform at Lilith Fair to get me loving it, to be exact. Once I began listening to this album, I began to realized what a pure genius Sarah McLachlan is, because she is able to produce beautiful songs full of meaning time after time again, and she has never once let down any of her true fans. In other words Sarah McLachlan is the embodiment of utter perfection.

"Fumbling Towards Ecstasy" is a 12 track album, that is guaranteed to have at least one song on it that speaks to each individual on a personal level. "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy" is the song that speaks to me because it talks about not fearing love, and allowing yourself to feel what you feel instead of bottling them up inside. I think that is one of the best messages I have heard in any song, because it is true and powerful. "Good Enough" is another great song, my second favorite, and her voice during this song is just indescribably beautiful. "Ice Cream" is a great song because it talks about love being better than anything, even ice cream! "Possession", "Wait", and "Hold On" are my other absolute favorites off of this masterpiece.

"Fumbling Towards Ecstasy" is by far the best Sarah McLachlan album to date because of the meanings and the emotions poured into every note of every song. I would recommend all of Sarah's other albums if you love this one, but I don't think that any of them can top this one, though some are very close to that achievement.
