Green Eggs and Ham
By: Dr. Seuss
Determination dominates at persuasive
Sam I am makes attempt after rhyming attempt to convince the old grouch to taste
green eggs and ham! As pessimistic as this grumpy grown-up is, the well-done illustrations bring a quirkiest grin to readers young and old. The 50 easy words that
Dr. Suess presents in this outstanding child story literally draw in the attention of children preschool through 1st grade (and above).
Repetitive wording, simple vocabulary, and rhymes galore lure your beginner reader through the 62 pages of this time-honored classic! The whimsical illustrations have stood the test of time, and allow
Green Eggs and Ham to reign in the top read lists of households everywhere!
As fate would have it
Sams pesky persistence pays off and old grouch agrees to take a taste. To every parents delight, the old grump declares,
"I do so like green eggs and ham. Thank you, thank you, Sam-I-am!"
Other than the obvious beginning reading pluses there remains the benefiting message of trying a bite before you reject a food. This valid point is beneficial to later attempts as well. As I point out to my children, our taste buds change, and you just might like it!
I will confess to not being fond of the reminder of
Green Eggs and Ham that my darling Mother gave our family when persuading a taste of Heinz green ketchup!
Green Eggs and Ham super! Ketchup has always been a cheerful bright red, and this adult likes it that way! Yes, we succumbed to the taste, and the ketchup tastes fine. However this sourpuss remains a consumer of the original red!
As a daycare provider/preschool teacher, once a year, we have
Green Eggs & Ham. The children are receptive to this, and gleefully eat every bite. We fill the day with Suessful fun activities, and read lots of this authors books. Happy Birthday Dr. Suess! Even though you were never a medical Dr., you definitely prescribed a love for reading. For that, I am so grateful!
Dr. Suess
The year was 1957, inspired by an article published in
Life magazine,
Theodor Geisel created a replacement for previous dull boring primers! Using an assumed name of
Dr. Suess and merely 223 words, these replacements would become time-honored classics. And success convinced
Dr. Suess and his wife to write 44 books and found Beginner books. This man presented fun in more ways than one! Checks out the authors name on
In A People House
by: Theo. LeSieg. Umm, that would be Geisel spelled backwards! Never, never would this author bore! Oh the smile that appears on my face and the warmth in my heart as I reflect on the passion
Dr. Suess had for developing reading fun!
